Randy Couture's Next Steps?

Randy Couture's Next Steps?

I just thought I'd offer my opinion on his opinion.

I'd like to state for the record, that I have a ton of respect for Randy as a person and as a fighter, I just don't think he is what a lot of his blind nuthugging fans say he is. The man has inspired me, he's inspired millions, but at the end of the day, he's an average fighter who is given far too little credit by his fans before he fights, and far too much after he fights.

Randy, I salute you for doing what you do, but I disagree with your legions of fans, All-time greats don't lose to Valentijn Overeem.

Anyways, here's my response (in bold):

1. Fedor. Fight him. People want to see it and if you retire and having never stepped into the octagon with him you will always wonder “what if”. Do it for $1 in your backyard and invite some friends over to judge if you have to for the purposes of various contracts but one way or another, fight Fedor. For us and for you.

- No. Fuck no. The guy wants to fight Fedor to prove something to himself. Prove what? That he can get dominated worse than Big Tim? Randy said immediately after getting fucking :owned: by Brock that Fedor would tear Brock to pieces. Ummmmmm....

2. Chuck Liddell. If Wayne Gretzky decided to suit up for one shootout appearance the entire hockey world would watch. If Michael Jordan stepped in for one free throw in a regular season game we would all get up off our seats and hold our breath to watch him one more time. And if Randy and Chuck agreed to battle it out in the octagon for a four-pete… well, there would be no venue large enough for the crowds that would line up.

- Why would the world line up to see a fight between these two? Especially when you look at the way the last two ended. This is a shit fight and comparing it to Gretzky or Jordan is embarrassing. Make it a pink slip on a pole match and I'm game.

3. Take on another heavyweight fight; win it and line up for the winner of Lesnar and Mir/Nogueira. You want to compete, compete with the big boys and show them you are indeed getting better with age.

- Who thinks that a single win should earn Randy another title shot? I sure don't. That being said, I'd like to see him get another shot just so I can see the hypocrites come out and try to justify Randy getting another shot after they spent the last year complaining about almost every title fight the UFC has put on.

4. Drop down in weight. It can’t possibly get easier with age to fight the heavyweights when your body weight is comfortably 220 pounds. Drop down to 205 and be the bigger man in the cage – time to take advantage of any opportunity available to you.

- 220 is his comfortable weight. Dropping to 205 won't make him "the bigger man" it'll just make him less smaller. 205 is the most competitive division in the UFC and the guys there would knock Randy's head off.

5. Retire. You deserve it. You have served the sport well and you owe it nothing while it owes you sincere gratitude for the years of memories and helping to pave the way for mainstream acceptance. Continue as a paid ambassador for the sport and your millions of fans.

- Randy owes the sport just over a year of fighting whether I want to see him fight again or not, walking away from a 4-fight contract to prove something to himself, that's just selfish. I hope he retires, but I'm sure he'll stick it out for a couple more losses.
