Yeah, I'm so excited that I couldn't wait to post about it again.
First off, the release date is set for April 24, 2009. 6 days after my birthday. Like I said, DREAMS do come true. UFC 97 is on my birthday and it's in Canada, then 6 days later, the greatest movie since Never Back Down hit theatres.
Let's take a closer look at this epic film.
The movie is written by Robert Munic and Dito Montiel, who also produces it, and it star Channing Tatum (of Step Up and Step Up to the Streets fame) and Terrence Howard (of lots of good movies fame).
The plot is a simple one, but it's one that's never been done before, and it's something we can all relate to. The movie is about a young counterfeiter living in New York City (Tatum) who is introduced to the world of underground street fighting by a seasoned scam artist (Howard). Howard becomes his manager on the bare-knuckling brawling circuit and helps him fight his way to the top.
From what I gather, Tatum meets a girl, falls in love, has to deal with throwing a fight and mobsters of some sort. You know, that old chestnut.
Some random movie info:
Also Known As: Untitled Dito Montiel Project (USA) (working title)
MPAA: Rated PG-13 for intense fight sequences, a sex scene and brief strong language.
Filming Locations: Nassau Street, Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA
Let's take a closer look at the cast:
for a Full Cast List, scroll to the bottom
Channing Tatum (aka Tyler Gage) plays the street tough counterfeiter Sean Arthur. Possibly the greatest role since Jake Tyler, I imagine Heath Ledger would've been considered for this role if he were still with us (RIP).
Terrence Howard plays hardened scam artist Harvey Boarden, I imagine this will be the role that finally pushes him into the elite.
Luis Guzmán plays Martinez, possibly a fight promoter. Quinton Aaron plays the Street Vendor who's victimized at some point during the film. MMA Superstar Cung Le has a big role as Dragon Lee.
I'm not sure who the "bad" fighter is, but I reckon it's either Dante Nero as Kimo or Michael Rivera as Ajax. Angelic Zambrana plays Kimo's girl, a possible love interest. Zulay Henao plays Zulay Valez, another possible love interest.
David Barroso plays the much anticipated Russian Fighter. But he's not the only one playing an anticipared characted; Judy Beil plays Business Woman, David John Bernardo stars as Toughguy, Luis Camacho is part of Kimo's BX Crew, Gary Cherkassky plays Russian Guy, Clem Cheung has a significant role as Korean Store Owner, Kelvin Coffey plays a Local, Berto Colon is the Exp. Suit Man, Carol Commissiong has the role of her life as Club Diva, John Dessantis couldn't let Luis Camacho get all the glory, he stars as CrazyTF Kimo's BX Crew, Jeff Grossmanis perfectly cast as VIP and Thomas M. Hagen is the Religous Leafleter.
Those aren't the only actors with huge parts though, Jet Harp lucked out when he landed the part as Gang member, Eleonore Hendricks plays Waitress, RJ Konner is the Wall Street Executive, Evan Lewis plays another VIP (of which this movie has many), Ivan Martin plays Merril Lynch Jerry, Janet Miranda, Jeanette Lutz and Karen Nazarov all play Russian girls, Rich Pecci is the token Loud Club Wannabe, and Steven Rubinchik rounds out an impressive supporting cast as Tough Guy.
There's a part so huge it needed three actors to play it. Greg Connolly, Daniel M. Suk, and Joe Toronto all play Binghamton.
It's common knowledge that I will be watching this movie for Tyler Gage and the fighting. But there are two reason the rest of the world should pay attention. Reason 1 is Nina Poon as Questionable Asian. Reason 2 is Jermel Wilson as Man in Cowhide suit.
I will be posting about this movie whenever news drops. So stay tuned.
